We had the honor of cruise along with Danny’s family for the last week of July! We have been planning for months and the trip did not disappoint!
We left a couple days early, we sailed out of Seattle and needed at least a night. We added on so we could explore the city.
Friday July 24th – Seattle
We stayed in the cutest hotel downtown the CitizenM Marriot – our room overlooked the city and waking up there with a cappuccino was just perfect. We headed to the Chihuly Museum to kick off the day. I got a peek of his work in Vegas at the Bellagio, but this was a whole other level.
After the museum, we went to the Space Needle and traveled all the way to the top! We had a glass of champagne and took in the views!
We headed to Pike Place, and it is just as incredible as you see in the movies, we walked around sampling things, seeing the fresh fish, flowers and vendors. We found Cafe Campagne for lunch, it was off the path and had an open patio on the table.
We finished the day with dinner on the water at Six Seven!
Saturday July 25 – Embarkation Day
We boarded the Royal Princess to embark on a 7 day cruise to Alaska. We found our rooms then headed to the deck for the sail away party! The ship was beautiful and we were already scouting for the perfect views for the week!
Sunday July 26th – A Day at Sea
Up early to take it all ins one thing you don’t want to miss sailing to Alaska is the views. The day was easy we had coffee o the top deck, pizza for lunch and dominos with the fam. Dinner was formal night so we got all dressed up and went to the comedy show after!
Monday July 27th – Juneau, Alaska
We had an excursion to go Whale Watching in town. We didn’t dock until 1pm so we spent the morning on our balcony, and the amount of whales we saw just from our room was outstanding. We dressed super warm for the day on the boat and headed to the dock as soon as we pulled in. We sailed with Harvey & Marv and they did not disappoint! We saw countless whales from afar and up close and personal. We even caught a few bubble feedings! We were in awe and beyond excited!
After whales we went to Tracy’s Crab Shack. Crab legs were on the list and this was the perfect way to check that box. PRO TIP: go to the (second) Tracy’s it’s about a 10-15 minute walk from the cruise ship dock. The tables and views are better and so are the crowds, we never had to wait. The food is pricy but totally worth it. We were covered in butter and crab by the time we left. We got back on the boat late, had a few drinks and even did silent disco to end the night.
Tuesday July 28th – Skagway, Alaska
We had a full day in Skagway and had a coupe of excursions booked. We started the day at Mushers Camp to visit with Alaskan Huskies – yes, we played with puppies. They were cute as can be, then we made campfire s’mores and walked the property. The views were postcard worthy and we saw salmon in the creek.
We headed to town to catch our 12pm White Pass Train Ride. We grabbed sandwiches to take on the train. The views were unmatched. PRO TIP, start on the left side of the train so you can see everything they are talking about when they are talking, then on the way back, head outside and enjoys the views from the right.
We had a little more time to kill after the train so we shopped around town and grabbed drink on the dock before heading back to the ship.
We kept it casual with cocktails and dinner in the dining room!
Wednesday July 29th – Glacier Bay National Park
While they consider this a port, you don’t actually get off the ship. My Biggest tip, GET UP EARLY and pre plan a spot. We found the perfect spot on tieback of thereat, something cozy, undercover when needed, with the perfect views. We got u there around 5:30and took it all in. Our eyes were glued to the water as we sailed. They bring a Naturalist on board to talk over the load speaker and point out some interesting things to look for. We say otters, whale, goats, bald eagles, a seal and even a bear. Then of course the immaculate icy glaciers that were the cherry on top of the cake.
We left the glaciers around 2pm and got room service and relaxed until dinner.
Thursday July 30th Ketchikan, Alaska
I was SO excited for today- It was a rainy day, but was perfectly fitting for this cute little town on the water. First stop, Jelly Fish Doughnuts. I have been lusting over their Salmon Doughnut for months. A savory brioche bread with a salmon cream cheese and scallions. It was to die for! I also grabbed a chocolate sea salt, blueberry and Maple Bacon. From there we made our way to creek street and did some shopping!
By the dock they had some food trucks and we grabbed a couple dozen oysters, crab chowder and a salmon sandwich. A Stellar lunch to say the least!
We had Dinner in the steak house after cocktails with the captain. It was a full and happy day.
Friday July 31st – Sea/ Victoria, Canada
It was an odd cruise day, we didn’t dock into Canada until 9pm and only had a couple hours. We spent the day relaxing and packing. We had lunch at the pizza place and played lots of games. We had our last dinner in the dining room and went into Victoria once we docked. We got a quick cocktail and got back on the boat.
We got off the boat Saturday morning and headed home. Alaska was truly a once in a lifetime experience and I hope to do it again someday with the girls. Highly recommend!
