Breakfast is Served {Brennan Turns 5}

Another party in the books and this might be a favorite of all time. As I started the conversation with Brennan back in December about possible themes, one thing I knew she loved was the color orange. I had seen this beautiful glittered orange in a Holiday ad and thought it would be fun to run with. I took the concept of the orange and turned it into orange juice and it snowballed from there. Instantly the wheels started turning, a waffle cake, diner vibes and all things breakfast. I quickly made a mood board and the Breakfast party was born.

You can take a look back at Brennan’s past parties, as her themes are some of my favorites.

One | Two | Three | Four

Flatlay

Let’s start with the Flatlay. I knew the invitation would be PERFECT for Itsy Bitsy Parties to design. I wanted it to feel like you were going to grab breakfast at a dinner and she hit the nail on the head. The RSVP was a guest check and she even made an envelope sticker to fit my waffle wax seal.

I had been collecting details for the flatlay throughout the planning process and included all the tiny little things. It’s one of those images where every time you look, you see something new. It was jam packed with hidden gems like the gummy egg on the toast eraser, the candles on the waffle spoon rest, and the Sweet and Low packet spilling out glitter sugar.

It captured the vibe and playfulness of the party and I just love how it turned out, now let’s take a look into the party.

The Table

My first phone call was to miss Cami Monet, we had just worked together on several elements for Denver’s Taylor Swift birthday and I knew she would be perfect for my crazy ideas. Cami paints incredible watercolor art, but the way she turns out product around them amazes me. I knew I wanted a breakfast table runner with plates, food, coffee stains, etc. She got right to it. As the months went on and she was showing me more and more of the runner, I wanted to make sure it was the star of the show. I found these bread shaped ceramic plates for about $5 a slice 🤪, layered with an incredible glittered egg from Lauren Glass, the table setting was born. In planning I worked with Suburban Soiree and together we created custom butter napkins. I am absolutely obsessed with this detail. I finished the setting with a coffee ring coaster, pink and white cutlery and a colorful cup.

Each cup was paired with a coordinating breakfast food stir stick by Acrylic Sticks. We had it all, bacon, toast, oranges, grapefruits, and more. These really added the extra color and life to the table. Along with a stir stick, each cup had a custom bread clip drink tag. This was one of those early, AH HA moments in planning. I designed the clip for Acrylic Sticks with Brennan’s birth date and the expiration date, and still cannot get over this detail.

Down the center of the table I kept it as simple as possible as to NOT cover the beautiful runner. I added unique vases like a banana, OJ and milk carton, as well as a few cake stands and coffee pots for extra flowers. Everything was layered on top of a light blue gingham tablecloth to give it the extra diner feel.

My execution changed as I set the table to make it feel simple and beautiful and think we really achieved that. Some of my favorite additions were the Salt and Pepper shakers, that were actually glitter, the pop tart initial tag on the pile of pop tarts, and the croissant napkins in the center.

Danny made long white benches for the table to brighten the room up and fit all 12 kids! I LOVE the way this came out, it’s so colorful and I could look for hours finding new details.

The Favors

A few years back I got a Banana pencil pouch from Pink Basil Celebrations and thought it would be the perfect thing to start with when it came to favors. I instantly knew it had to have all the custom fruit stickers it to make it extra special. I filled each pencil pouches with toast erasers, and two custom pencils. I went to The Pencil Boutique Co. to create breakfast themed pencils. I gave each kid a breakfast pair, like Coffee + Cream, Toast + Strawberry Jam, Bacon + Egg Yolk, etc. The ideas continued flowing so I added several things to create a favor bar. One of my favorites was the bag of oranges. I grabbed orange gum balls and some netting and made tiny bags of oranges, Itsy Bitsy created a custom tie tag and it came out SO CUTE. The kids also got Oat Milk stress balls, bouncy ball eggs, breakfast scrunchies and match book notepads. They filled up their to go bag and were all set.

Each individual favor was so beautiful I wanted to make sure I used the items as a part of the decor too. I set everything out on a credenza so you could see it all during the party as well. I also added extra treats, florals and fruit to make it feel like a diner. On the walls above the favor bar hung giant Guest Checks painted by Cami Monet. I had four with lyrics from a Harry Styles song, “hash browns, egg yolk, I will always Love you.” The other two were on the corner wall to create a beautiful backdrop. Next to the favor bar was the cake!

The Cake + Sweets

This was also one of those first ideas I thought would be super easy for me and really fun! I used my waffle maker and made her a seven layer waffle cake! I alternated the layers of waffles with butter cream and topped it with a vanilla meringue to look like whipped cream. I had some gold edible glitter on hand and covered the entire this in shimmer. With the addition of tall gold candles and a helping of syrup, it was such a hit!

We of course served all the cookies and macarons along with the cake. Royally Iced out did herself with incredible custom cookies that looked like all the breakfast food and different custom details from the party. I put them out on cake stand on the cake table as well as around the party.

Soiree Macarons sent some incredible macarons like fired eggs, stacks of pancakes and little blueberries. They added so much whimsy to the treats. I layered in cake stands of pop tarts and meringues so there was no shortage of something sweet.

Cereal + Ice Cream

Speaking of Sweets I saw Jeni’s Ice Cream promoting breakfast flavors at the beginning of the year and ordered them SO FAST. So I turned the bar cart into a cereal and Ice cream bar. There were six flavors to choose from:

  • Coffee with Cream and Sugar
  • Banana French Toast
  • Skillet Cinnamon Roll
  • Sweet Cream Biscuits and Peach Jam
  • Maple Soaked Pancakes
  • Powdered Jelly Doughnut

I saw a little creamery in North Carolina, Two Roosters serve their ice cream in egg cartons and had to adopt the idea for this party. So you scooped two flavors of ice cream into the egg carton and topped with your favorite cereal, and little spin on cereal and milk. Sophistiplate had the perfect mini cocktail spoons to use for the ice cream and I used fun color Ice cream scoops to tie it all in.

Acrylic Sticks created food picks with little icons of each flavor to you knew what you were indulging in, and I cannot get enough. I completed the bar cart with white and gold garlands, Chalk Designs by Me tags and a coffee pot of florals.

Behind the bar cart, Cami painted a fake fridge. Yes, you heard that right. I had an orange SMEG in my mood board so she made me a life size “Egg” Fridge. For the fridge she made magnets out of the plate illustrations from runner. I used them to hang the invitation which was such a fun way to incorporate it into the party. Around the fridge I hung more art from Cami and a No Cell Phones sign (another nod to Gilmore Girls).

Florals

I did the floral my self, this marks three years of doing the girls flowers and it is one of my favorite “DIY” moments of the party. I hit up trader joes of course to grab everything I could. I get most excited sourcing and collecting interesting vases to the arrangements in. For this party I went to good will and grabbed old coffee pots. They were PERFECT for the theme, cheap and easy. I also used the Shop Bando drink cartons and banana which were do perfect! I also used some solid vases from Glitterville to punch up the color. I only had one large vase the rest were mostly bud vases. I love how it easily spread the flowers around!

The Coffee Bar

The coffee bar is my actual coffee bar on a daily basis, so this was easy to transform. I had coffee going for the adults, orange and grapefruit juice in the service jugs and three flavors of milk. I served mimosas and bloody Marys for the adults. I also grabbed white diner mugs from good will to be the cups for everything! It kept it very easy and on theme.

I had Danny added a shelf above to add extra decor. I used cereal boxes and this incredible cereal inspired “The Breakfast Bar” Menu from Acrylic Sticks. I added in florals, garlands and a Coffee Coffee Coffee shelfie from Chalk designs by me.

The Entertainment

Keeping the kids entertained is always the hardest part for me, thank goodness for Little Babes of Charleston coming in clutch with a beautiful bounce house. This is a garuntee for the kids to have a blast and they sure did! Holy City Party brought the bounce house to life with beautiful two tone teal ballon garland. We chose this color way because of all the orange elements throughout the party I knew the blue would make it all pop! She also created three large orange balloons and we even added a little leaf to the top! They were so much fun and moved throughout the party!

In addition to the bounce house I set up a mega dough bar. Earth Grown KidDoughs sent over everything the kids needed to make their own breakfast out of dough. I mean, everything… waffle molds, pretend whipped cream, mini milk jugs and of course, dough. It was so adorable I couldn’t handle it. Cami made place mats for each kid that was an empty plate where their dough creations came to life. I displayed all the play pieces in mini bowls and added a few coffee mugs of florals.

Kid sized tables from Holy City Party made it easy for the kids to play. Let me tell you, both of these elements were a HUGE hit! The kids spent so much time outside playing!

The Outfits

The birthday girl wore a hand me down dress that was Ray’s. The perfect clementine print dress from Pink Chicken. The big girls wore new Pink Chicken dresses to coordinate, with a strawberry print and they were too cute for words! Each girl wore a custom party pin from Hip Hooray Studios. They were hand made by Elise featuring an egg, croissant and pop tart. I also used them on Brennan’s presents and they made for the best gift toppers.

The birthday girl had a custom orange hat by Winnie and Haze paired with the most perfect 5 wand that was handmade to look like a pancake with a tab of butter and syrup. Y’all I have the most creative, amazing vendors EVER.

I had to have this Butter T shirt when it went viral and was the first thing I bought. I paired it with blue and white stripe pants, which the girls call my “Milk Pants” and I am obsessed! Finishing the outfit with these adorable blueberry earrings!

The Food

Breakfast food, obviously. The challenge was to have something that did not have to be made and stay hot. I made an “elevated” continental breakfast. I served Croissants, Cinnamon rolls, mini bagels and cream cheese, greek yogurt with fruit and granola, sausage and egg popovers and quiche. I was able to cook everything the day before and re heat at the party. I also grabbed mini, individually wrapped waffles to dip in syrup. I set out some plates and napkins and let everyone have at it.

The Gifts

I had TOO much fun wrapping her presents. Cami printed her illustrations on wrapping paper for me to incorporate and the incredible Shavs Paper did custom wrap as well. Shauna of Shave Paper illustrated reversible dine inspired paper with a diner table on one side and an epic stack of pancakes on the other. I topped each gift with Tags, acrylic food, and glitter syrup, of course.

The Photographs

A HUGE shoutout to the amazing Dani Lacey who came in town to capture this party. She started early and didn’t stop shooting. It was so fun to catch her playing and styling all the things. If nothing else, having a photographer there who I trust will capture the magic is the biggest deal. I will cherish these photos of my girls for ever.

To all the amazing vendors who were apart of this party, it was SO much fun to plan and execute, a forever favorite.

Now, who wants pancakes?
