Makeover With Maxtrix Kids

When we moved to South Carolina, we moved into a four bedroom house, an additional bedroom than we had in California. A few of our priorities were having office space for both Danny and myself, and being about three hours away from a lot of family, we wanted a guest room as well.

In the Carolinas many homes have what we call a FROG (front room over the garage), they are typically long and skinny right in front of the house. When we moved in we decided to put all three girls into the FROG. They are finally at the perfect age to share a room and thought it would be so much fun! The additional bedroom would become a playroom/ guest room- it was the biggest room upstairs and I wanted to keep all the toys, stuffed animals, etc there. That way the bedroom could be simple for sleeping and clothing.

The Girls Room

You can see the girls room when we moved in here. It was great and it worked but we BARELY had any storage. Three girls and one dresser was just NOT working for us, plus, as much as I tried, the toys and trinkets came in, and ended up pilling under the bed which dove me crazy.

Maxtrix Kids reached out to me and the moment I saw they had furniture with under bed storage I was SO excited to work with them. They set the girls up with three twin beds, all with gorgeous head and foot boards! Best part was each girl got TWO drawers under their beds! I could finally put their things in a good place and I didn’t have to see it! Because they now had drawers under the beds, I had to ditch the nightstands and we gave them each a shelf.

I have always loved this solution, we’ve had the shelves since Denver was born. It gives them a little place for their water and clock, but it is not enough space to clutter.

We also took out the dresser and added three, 3 drawer dressers, this added 5 full size drawers for their clothes, and gave Brennan a place for her things (the big girls basically share clothes). All the drawers in the dressers and under the bed are soft close, and it gave the entire room the cohesive, streamline look I longed for. The decor stayed on Taylor Swift theme and now picking up toys and putting away laundry is a BREEZE.

The Guest Room

As I was chatting with Maxtrix Kids team, we started talking about bigger bed options. Our current Guest/ Play room just had a pull out couch, which was great, but really not comfortable for two adults. I was struggling a little bit with adding a bed, I still wanted the room to feel fun and playroom like. I saw the bunk bed options and knew this was the best choice.

We chose a queen on the bottom and twin on the top bunk bed. The queen made it so it was reasonable for two adults, and the bunk still made it fun! We put the bed where the couch was, but kept the couch on the other side of the room. The couch lifts up to store all the stuffed animals and of course still pulls out to a double bed. This room is now perfect for guests, families and epic sleepovers!

The room also has a dresser to store all the toys, blocks and dress up clothes. I added a playful gallery wall over the dresser of some fun art work like this candy land print and the pin the tail on the bunny my dad drew for me in 1993.

Of course, the queen bed has under the bed storage, for all the things, and let me tell you the girls LOVE this room. We have had many guests come and go, but every weekend, the girls ditch their bedroom and have sleepovers in the playroom (including every day this summer!)

The Book Nook

In my head there would have been plenty of room for a bookshelf in the playroom, but between the couch and the dresser, there wasn’t. Their books really didn’t have a place and I desperately needed something! In the hall way right outside their playroom there is a long hallway. We put the book shelf here and added the rocking chair I had in all the girls nurseries. It created the SWEETEST book nook.

I fit in all of their books, and special knick knacks. I hung three Book Store illustrations by Nysha Lilly above the shelves which I am just in love with! I added a little lamp and basket of dolls and it is just the sweetest space that really had no purpose before.

These pieces of furniture completely transformed the girls spaces making their lives easier and more magical. These pieces from Maxtrix Kids made me fall in love with our home even more and made everyday things like getting the girls ready for school and kissing them goodnight easier on me, more reason to enjoy the girls and not notice the STUFF.
