Rainbow Christmas {Denver turns 4}

WOW! What a fun party! I feel like I have been talking about it and planning it since this summer and I am so excited to finally share photos! If you want to start with all the inspiration, head to my inspo post for where the idea started. I will also be doing a guest blog over on Ollie Jay later in the week and I will go into detail about some of my favorite party tips! So for now, PHOTO OVERLOAD…

The theme, (chosen by my four year old), Rainbow Christmas- it was so fun to put a colorful twist on a December birthday! We had the party at home with just a few friends, we decorated gingerbread houses, ate WAY too much candy and basked in rainbow glory.

I put a rainbow twist in every detail, down to the goodie bag and even the food we served!

None of this party would have been possible without a number of small shops who I will tag at the bottom!

Creating the Scene

Converting my house into a rainbow wonderland was pretty easy! All the white walls created a great blank pallet! I kept all the decor out of reach of tiny hands, and moved a few pieces of furniture to cater to what I wanted the house too look like. The wrapping paper back drop was one of my favorite elements. This print my Mr. Boddington is every color of the rainbow but entitled with something Christmas. I love looking closely and finding something new like “Clara’s Ballet Slippers” or “Save the Bows”. Of course, the rainbow of bottle brush trees was to die for! A lot of which I dyed or bleached to get the exact colors I needed! (you can find my ‘tutorial’ saved in a Instagram highlight.)  Garlands and balloons are a staple in every party I throw- they were both serious show stoppers this time!

Setting the Table

With only six kids, I wanted each place to be a different color of the rainbow! I found solid plates big enough to hold a gingerbread house. From there I matched the cup and flatware. Personalized name tags had coordinating ribbon, and color pallet napkins to add in the rainbow. We had every color of candy down the center of the table in rainbow order of course! We let the kids go at it, eating more candy than hit the houses and eating frosting right from the piping bag!

Eat, Drink & be Merry

I kept what I served simple on purpose the party time was 2-4 so no meal was required! I served iced hot chocolate with marshmallows, water and cocktails for the adults. I did a huge spread of fruit, vegetables, cheese and charcuterie, and yes in rainbow order. It was perfect for everyone to help them selves and snack throughout the party.

The Cake

My close friend Alexis of Suga Mama’s Bakery on St. Thomas flew over for the party with a huge cake and gingerbread houses in tow! She made each layer a different color and filled the center with sprinkles! We kept the outside simple and decorated with the candies from the gingerbread houses. The cake topper was my FAVORITE part! Custom designed byFancy Free Finery, it embodied the rainbow magic with tiny ornaments and as always Denver loves to see her name!

The Goodies

I found the coolest DIY on Pinterest from Craftberry Bush to make gingerbread houses out of paper bags, each bag filled with a different color of the rainbow, with all the party goodies, a new ornament and fun necklaces for the girls!

Party Dresses

As always the birthday girl has to look the part! She wore a festive rainbow dress and my favorite Rainbow party hat. Sister always need something new too, because sisters… Ollie Jay makes the BEST twirling dresses and a bright saturated color was perfect!

Flat Lay Forever

I’ve gotten into the tradition to take a party flat lay, I love focusing on the details, showing off the invitation, and giving some of my favorite things their own place in case they get lost on party day! I also make the flat lay photo the cover of their party chatbook, it’s so fun to look at them all together! You can catch my BTS of this flat lay saved in an Instagram highlight

THANK YOU!

To all the small shops that played a part in making my vision come to life! I am forever grateful for all of you!

  1. […] always love number 8, Mr. Boddington’s color swatches. I first used it for Denver’s Rainbow Christmas and fell in love. Each color is described with something holiday and it melds rainbow and Christmas […]
